Getting rid of Puffy Eyes

We’ve all had them. Restless nights, tear-stained pillows, a few too many cocktails, seasonal allergies, sinus conditions or colds can leave your eyes swollen and tender in the morning.

Don’t despair. Take a deep breath, and get ready to face the day with one of these all-natural solutions for puffy eyes:

Tea Bags
Sometimes, your mother really does know best.

  • Warm chamomile tea bags placed upon swollen eyes is so soothing.
  • For morning emergencies… keep a supply of moist, chilled chamomile tea bags in the fridge. Pop these upon your puffy eyes, take a series of deep, calming breaths, then splash your face with cool water. Today is a brand new day!
  • Veggies and Milk
    Try one of these cool kitchen combinations to combat puffiness. Apply for 10 minutes:

  • Slices of cucumber.
  • Slices of cucumber soaked in milk.
  • Slices of potato wrapped in gauze.
  • Cotton balls or pads soaked in cold milk.
  • More Bright Ideas

  • Cotton balls or pads soaked in witch hazel and applied for 10 minutes.
  • A stiffly beaten egg white applied under eyes. Add a few drops of witch hazel to reduce swelling.
  • Wrap an ice cube in a paper towel and apply it to the puffiness.
  • With your eyes open, soak your face for a minute or two in a bowl of cold distilled water.
  • Tips
    Be sure to take your makeup off meticulously at night, do not rub your eyes, take an antihistamine if you have allergies, avoid alcoholic beverages, get plenty of sleep and drink 8 oz. of water each day.
