Soft At Home

Provence Settee

Home is one of my favorite places – there’s just nothing quite like it. It’s the place where I can kick off my shoes as soon as I step in the door, snack directly out of the fridge and not be embarrassed about how spoiled my dogs are. It’s also the space that I’ve made for me, my partner and the aforementioned chiens terribles. My furniture is simple and cozy (with a few fun pieces mixed in) and every interesting object I’ve collected through life has a place of honor. It just feels so right to walk in the door and know that this is where I belong.

Another love is travel, where I get to search through trade shows and flea markets, here and abroad, to find the ideas that become products for our catalog and for you. There’s a certain sense of style that our home goods customers seem to share, whether countryside or urban, from far north to deep south and coast to coast – it’s not a particular look or theme, but an appreciation for easy, comfortable pieces that still have wonderfully distinct details to set them apart. At Soft Surroundings, we understand that you need your home to be a safe haven (as far from the hectic daily world as possible) while still reflecting your sense of individuality and joy in living.

Wooden Urn Lamp

We’ve got a wonderful (I think – and hope you agree) new boutique collection we’re calling “Soft At Home” launching on the website this season. I truly hope there is something for all of our customers among our beautiful, hand-crafted upholstered furniture from Hickory, North Carolina, exciting designer lamps, stunning art prints and the most delightful woven rugs – because every piece was selected with you in mind.

Some definite faves:

Finding that one, ideal piece to anchor your décor is a great way to start a room right. Our Provence Settee is a beautifully hand-carved love seat – perfect for any space. With the wide selection of upholstery choices, it works equally well from country cottage to urban loft. You also have the option of customizing with your own fabric (our COM program) to create the perfect piece for you. I’m in love with the “Vintage Down” cushion option. You get all the easy style and comfort of a traditional down filling, but with the comfort and support of a modern foam cushion core.

Safari Rug

The right lighting always helps to set the mood. Our Wooden Urn Lamp has a delightfully carved wood base with a generous linen shade. It has a Tuscan sensibility that brings old world charm to any setting. One important note – all of our lamps are UL approved and of really wonderful quality.

There’s just something fun (and rather sophisticated) about adding a bit of the exotic to a room. Our Safari Rug has such a great feeling, plus it’s made of ultra-soft New Zealand wool and hand tufted for years and years of reliable use.

Lemon Bowl

This one was love at first sight. “Lemon Bowl” is a wonderful still life, done in an interpretation of Cezanne’s style. The artist, Suzanne Etienne, has such a remarkable eye for color and composition. I’m looking for a space in my home where it will fit.

Just one more – our Vendange Chest is one of the prettiest pieces I’ve seen in a long time. The naturally weathered, stripped-down finish is a really lovely juxtaposition from the sleek curves and dainty silvered handles. It’s quite an eye catcher anywhere from foyer to bedroom.

Vendange Chest

So I hope you find a moment to browse our brand new collections and please check back from time to time, as we’ll be adding wonderful new things as we acquire them. It doesn’t matter if it’s a whole room redecoration or a wonderful little accent piece, anything that adds to that “I’m home” feeling is a truly great find.

Sorry, Pat. Right now we only offer the Southampton Skirted Comforter in white. We used to offer it in a few other colors, but now only offer white. We may decide to offer different colors in the future, but there are no immediate plans.

I have been wishing for the Southampton skirted comforter for several years now, but I want it in an eggplant color. Is it ever made in that color? I check every month or so, but have never seen it in anything except white. (which is absolutely gorgeous!)
I love your catalog–just looking at it makes me feel special.
