If you feel that your hair is no longer as thick and plentiful as the hair you were born with, you’re by no means alone. Women make up 40% of American hair loss sufferers, according to the American Hair Loss Association. But fortunately for those 40%, new treatments are constantly emerging to treat thinning strands and hair loss. For women who are hoping to improve their thinning and hair loss situations, treatment options include everything from eating a balanced diet to using the latest in shampooing and styling products packed with healthy hair ingredients to using over-the-counter medication. Of course your doctor may prescribe an appropriate treatment as well.

hair-lossNutritional Supplements

One of the most common reasons for increased hair loss in women is the lack of proper nutrients for hair follicles. Follicles derive their nutrition from the blood, and when they are starved of essential nutrients, they are more prone to shedding. By maintaining a balanced diet and taking vitamin and mineral supplements, you can gain control over hair loss.

Some vitamins and minerals that have been shown to aid in hair health include Vitamin A, B2, B6, Niacin, Folic Acid, Biotin, Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Omega-3 Fatty Acids and protein, which can be found in foods like bananas, potatoes, spinach, poultry, fish and eggs. While eating foods rich in these nutrients is the best way to reap the benefits, you can also take a daily supplement formulated for healthier hair.

Hair Loss Shampoos and Styling Products

One of the easiest ways to increase the overall hair health and reduce the rate of loss is by using shampoos and styling products specifically formulated to improve these conditions. Many organic styling products and shampoos aid in hair loss prevention, since they don’t contain harsh chemicals, artificial fragrances or colors that may contribute to hair loss. Many of these shampoos heavily rely on the natural healing power of herbs, which are gentle and nourish the scalp and follicles to help slow hair loss. Look for herbs like Aloe Vera, Jojoba, Tea Tree Oil, Pomegranate, Rosemary, Wheat Protein, Lavender, Chamomile, Soy Protein and Panthenol (Vitamin B5). We love Apivita’s Propoline Tonic Shampoo for Thinning Hair because it stimulates circulation for proper hair growth and strengthens and hydrates damaged strands – oh, and it is 100% organic, too!

Medications

A variety of medications have been developed specifically for women suffering from hair loss. Before you start a medication regimen, have the cause of your hair loss diagnosed by a dermatologist or other expert who can provide you with different treatment options. Among the most popular medication is the FDA-approved, over-the-counter topical preparation Minoxidil, which increases blood flow in the scalp, allowing the absorption of more nutrients that the hair needs to grow. Originally developed as a treatment for male pattern baldness, it has also been found to be effective in women, helping to enlarge and lengthen hair follicles. The primary drawback is that it may not promote re-growth in all women, but can extend the growth phase and help you keep the hair you do have, longer.

Regardless of which option is right for you, it’s reassuring to know that there are treatments proven effective for helping re-grow strong, healthy, beautiful hair.

    Hi Caryn,

Thank you for your comments and question. We know you are going to love Apivita’s Propoline Tonic Shampoo for Thinning Hair – this is a very popular product with our customers and has received excellent reviews. Thank you for your order – we look forward to hearing what you think about it!

Regarding your question about a safe hair coloring product, we unfortunately we do not have a specific one we can recommend given that each person’s hair coloring needs can be very different. We suggest that you ask your hair stylist or dermatologist for the best product for you to use. If you are having trouble with thinning hair, they may be able to recommend a product that is suitable for your hair’s specific needs.

Please let us know if there is anything else we can help you with, Caryn, and we’ll be happy to do so. Thank you again for your business – we very much appreciate it!

    Sincerely,
    Soft Surroundings

I am ordering the shampoo for thinning hair. I do not know the cause of my hair thinning but I am beginning to blame it on years of coloring and fairly recently hi-lite with bleach.
My question is: Any chance of your staff finding a safe hair coloring product?
    I trust your choices.
    Thank you, Caryn
