This Season’s Holiday Make-up Tips
Are bright lips in or out? What about sleek hair strands? We have the scoop on the latest fall beauty trends and how to easily transform them into 2011’s hottest holiday looks.
Take a Brow: Dark, dramatic and full eyebrows are taking center stage this fall. To get the look, first let your brows grow in a bit to give them a thicker, more defined look. Then fill in brows with an eyebrow marker (or pencil) or eyebrow powder that matches your hair shade using quick, short strokes. Keep them neat with a clear brow wax or gel. We like Paula Dorf’s 2+1 for Brows, which includes two eyebrow powders to mix-n-match to your own hair color, plus a clear wax to shape and define brows. Highlight your new fuller eyebrows for the holidays by applying a pearlescent highlighter directly under the brow bone. You can also create a bit more drama for evening by darkening your brows a little more than usual.

Heavy Metals: Metallic, glittering eyelids made an impression in hues of silver, gold, bronze and gunmetal gray. From dazzling sparkles to more muted mattes, eyes were getting all the attention. Take things down a notch by applying a glimmer eye shadow hue of light gray to the lids only or line eyes with an eye liner pencil dotted with a hint of shimmer. To get holiday party-ready, choose a shade of sheer silver for your lids or try a deep gem-colored metallic eyeliner in sapphire, emerald or amethyst.

Word of Mouth: Red has the final word on lips, from subtle scarlet to neon fire engine. Keep the look classy by using a matching lip liner to keep the dark shade from bleeding around fine lines. Or ditch the heavy lipstick for a rose-colored tinted lip balm, stain or gloss for the same effect without all the fuss. Create a more modern, holiday-worthy hue by switching the glossy finish to a matte red lip using a matte lipstick.

Be a Tease: Poofed to perfection, 60s-inspired coifs are calling this fall. Some took hair to new heights with giant buns and bouffants. The sky’s the limit with this style, but to bring it back down to earth, try applying a volumizing serum or
mousse to roots, then back-teasing the crown of your hair before securing it into a sleek ponytail or bun. Oscar Blandi’s Hair Lift is an excellent product for adding volume. Create a little extra “oomph” for a special holiday event by using Velcro rollers in hair for extra amplification.
