How would you describe your home’s décor?
My home is traditional with a French twist – except for the areas that my two kids Sophia and Isabella keep their toys. In those rooms it looks like a princess themed explosion. Feathers and glitter and all!
What inspires your design style?
I love comfortable yet beautiful design. I think that a home should be pleasing to the eye but relaxing after a long day.
Is there a specific city or time period that has most influenced your home décor?
I find when I travel I am always taking pictures of decor. Every vacation album I make has to be edited so there are not 20 pictures of beautiful marble in Italian Hotel bathrooms. I love the color palettes and moldings in Italy and France.
Where are your favorite places to shop for YOUR home?
My favorite places to shop is on my couch browsing through catalogs on the weekend. I have a file of all the pages with beautiful pieces that I love. When I am ready to decorate I go through my file – I was so excited when I first received the Soft Surroundings Retreat catalog, because the decor is right up my alley.
What colors ARE YOUR CURRENT FAVORITE to decorate with?
My favorite colors are creamy white and blue-grey-blue, aqua blue, sky blue. I find it soothing. I find my house is slowly getting blue hints throughout.
What is your favorite room in your house?
My favorite room is my bedroom. It is a retreat where I can unwind from a long day.
If you could pick one room to redo, which would it be, and why?
I would redo my kitchen. It is the same kitchen we moved into and it is updated but I find it non-functional and the color scheme is very different from the rest of the house. Everything is black and white and I have done my best to make it “mine” by adding touches of color and interesting displayed
What piece in your home is most precious to you?
My most precious piece is an antique side table that I found 10 years ago in a little shop in the Hamptons. It was a set of two and I gave my Mother the matching piece.
What one statement piece would you love to have in your home?
I would love to have a Herman Miller Eames chair in my husband’s den. And I would love a Bergere chair to replace my reading chair in my bedroom.
What home item is worth splurging on?
Painting. If you get a quality painter who can do beautiful work and faux finishes it sets the backdrop for your home. The entry way of my center hall colonial is painted in the most beautiful blue-grey in a Venetian plaster finish. It is stunning. I love the color and the finish.
How do you make your home feel welcoming?
lots of rooms to sit and kick back depending on the occasion – some food, some wine, a roaring fire. Perfect way to spend time with friends and family.
What do you think creates a comfortable, relaxing atmosphere?
I think a beautiful yetcomfortable decor is a good starting point. Making sure the clutter is tucked away (even if you have small children) and pleasant aromas with reed diffuser’s or candles throughout the home. And throw blankets are a great way to get cozy in the living spaces.
What one piece of decorating advice you would share with others?
Pick what you love, go with your gut instinct but make sure it is comfortable and livable!
What is your favorite Soft Surroundings Retreat item?
It is hard to choose just one. I love the Sylvestre Chair, with its beautiful lines and colors. It is the perfect accent chair. My dogs Bobka and Ruggy love snuggling on the Wicker Dog bed.
