7 Simple Steps to Beautiful Skin

Turn back the clock and reveal brighter, tighter, more youthful supple skin in 7 easy steps. Little changes to your daily routine can equal gorgeous results. You’ll be glowing by the next weekend!

1) Get your ZZZs
It’s called beauty sleep for a reason. While we are in the throes of blissful, restorative sleep, our cells are working overtime to repair and renew. While you get your eight hours, it’s also time to do an about face and sleep on your back. Sleeping on your face can add extra creases and wrinkles to your lovely visage. Mature skin isn’t as resilient as younger skin. Sleep lines take longer to fade and, over time, permanent wrinkles can take up residence. If you’re a devoted stomach sleeper, consider switching to a silk pillowcase, which is much kinder to delicate facial skin.

getsleep2) The Whole Story
Switch up your diet and add more whole foods to your plate, particularly skin saviors like antioxidant-rich fruits and vegetables and skin-rejuvenating Omega-3 foods like fish and nuts. These healthy skin boosters work from the inside out to soften and smooth skin by fighting free radicals and inflammation. Aim for a colorful plate like wild-caught salmon, spinach salad and fresh strawberries. Yum!

People are always looking for the Fountain of Youth. In reality, it’s as close as your nearest drinking fountain. Staying well hydrated throughout the day energizes your muscles and plumps your cells while whisking away skin-dulling impurities. And don’t forget the importance of washing your face twice a day. But stop scrubbing and tugging and go gentle on your skin with a mild cleanser and warm, not hot, water (this goes for your body, too). Too-harsh cleansers and too-hot water can strip skin of natural oils, sending oil production into overdrive as your skin tries to compensate for lost moisture. A final cool rinse will help to close your pores, making them appear smaller. Drier skin can skip the a.m. wash and just do a splash of cool water.

Masks and peels can provide an instant beauty boost, refreshing and revealing radiant skin by deep cleaning and refining pores, lifting surface dirt and debris, locking in moisture, soothing redness and treating and preventing breakouts. Peels are more intensive than masks, removing the outermost layer of dulling, dead skin cells thereby fading fine lines, wrinkles and dark spots. Right before bedtime is the best time to try a mask or peel. In case you have residual redness afterwards, you’ll have the overnight hours to let your skin breathe and calm. It’s best to not try a new intensive treatment like a mask or peel the night before a big event, though. Give yourself a few days to see how your skin reacts to the new product. As always, be sure to choose the mask or peel that’s best suited for your skin type and needs.

unmasking5) Slough the Rough Off
Exfoliate from head to toe a couple of times of week and reveal brighter, fresher skin all over. If using an exfoliating product, be sure to use something suited for your face or body. Enzyme-based products are easier on delicate facial tissue. Grittier products like sea salt or sugar scrubs are great for thicker-skinned elbows, knees and soles plus they smell divine. A sonic cleanser is also a good head-to-toe option to remove dull, flaky skin.

Foreo Luna6) Sweet Moisture
Cleaning and exfoliating are important for removing surface impurities, but moisturizing is essential for overall skin health and vitality, not to mention adding a youthful radiance. Again, be sure to choose the right product for your skin type and for where you plan to use it (face, eyes, body, heels, etc.). Skin should never feel tight, just soft and refreshed. Choose more emollient, deeply hydrating formulas for thicker, drier skin. As the seasons change, you’ll want to reevaluate your selection as your skin needs change with the climate.

sweetmoisture7) Sun Smarts
Before you step out the door, don’t forget the sunscreen. No matter the time of year, the sun’s damaging rays can age your skin, creating free radicals that further deplete skin-plumping Collagen. Apply sunscreen after your moisturizer has thoroughly soaked in, before your makeup. Or, easier still, use a moisturizer with built-in sunscreen.sunsmarts

I returned a pair of silk pants to you about three weeks ago. It would be nice to hear if you are processing that return and, since you have my e-mail address, that wouldn’t be too difficult, would it?
