Going to Great Lengths: The Maxi Dress

By on May 11, 2015, in Soft Surroundings

The maxi dress may very well be one of the best things to have happened to fashion. There is no end to the ways it can be dressed up, dressed down — from a day at the beach to a night on the town!

Effortlessly stylish and incredibly comfortable, it looks great on women of every age and body type. (It’s also brilliant for when you want to conceal your legs or tummy a bit, too.)

What we love most about a maxi is that with a quick change of accessories, you can instantly transform your look without changing your clothes!

Some of the best accents for maxi dresses tend to be ones that keep the look casually chic. Think ethnically-inspired silver and gold, earthy beadwork, and artisan detailing in pendant necklaces, hoop-style earrings or an armful of bangles.

Scarves, wraps, and toppers will give your maxi a wonderfully elegant look that will also chase away the chill as the night draws on.

When it comes to shoes, gladiator sandals, strappy wedges, and ballet flats look the best with maxi dresses.

Sophisticated Solids

With its long column of soft cotton modal knit, the Santiago Dress is elegant and endlessly versatile. Its sophisticated color offerings and scoop neckline invite statement pieces like the Sun Coast Necklace, too. Add the Cyprus Sandals to complete the chic look.

The Slimming Maxi Dress is just that, and with its jersey tank style bodice and softly sweeping tiered skirt, it’s the perfect canvas for your unique accessorizing. The Seraphina Sash is the perfect way to tie up the look, literally! Add the Karina Sandals and you’re ready to go.

Effortless style is a breeze with the La Paz Dress. Silky, crinkle-textured fabric flatters as it floats over curves while providing graceful movement. Top off the breezy look with the Midas Cardi, the lovely drape of the Willow Necklace, and the simply beautiful Pieta Sandals.

Pretty Prints

Awash in an ocean-blue print that floats across a drape of soft rayon, the Mirabelle Dress is a celebration of summer. Make it soiree-ready with touches of earthy, boho accents such as the Coin and Crystal Earrings, the Coronado Bracelet, and the Sparkle Navajo Sandals.

The Summer Breeze Dress is made of floaty chiffon in a neutral abstract print perfect for pops of colorful accessories. Pair with the rich, coral orange of the Seaside Sunrise Necklace, the vibrant Rio Topper, and the sexy-chic Sedona Sandals.

The Iris Dress features a beautiful monoprint on a black background to give the dress a striking look that’s still perfectly versatile. Pair with the Gypsy Cuff Bracelet and Palm Beach Sandals for a casual-glam look for your night on the town.

Why have you been advertising a dress since April that is not only currently unavailable but one that won’t be in stock until Aug? I almost overlooked that and ordered it for a wedding in July.

    • Soft Spoken Soft Surroundings

Thanks for reading Susan! We apologize for the inconvenience of stock availability. The dresses shown in this 2015 article were extremely popular last year, and we are so excited to be able to show them again in our 2016 collection! We would love to help you find the perfect option for the upcoming wedding though. Please feel free to contact our Customer Care Team (1-800-240-7076) and we would be happy to offer a few suggestions. 🙂

I absolutely love the Santiago dress, but I need in beige/natural/tan. Any hope for that?

    • Soft Spoken Soft Surroundings

We are in love with it too Krista- it’s a go-to summer staple! Currently the closest to a natural color is our burnt sienna. The Santiago dress does also come in a shorter version, which is available in the color driftwood- you can find it here: http://bit.ly/1TKWSEY. You may also want to take a look at our Slimming Maxi Dress (http://bit.ly/1U8MB1e) it comes in birch tan and has a similar fit to the Santiago!

I did see the slimming maxi, but don’t go for the tiered skirt. It is closer to the color I’m looking for. I do want a maxi, and saw that besides the tank version the Santiago maxi also comes in a 3/4 length sleeve. For what it’s worth, if you ever make it in beige/sand I’d buy one of each. Cheers!

We will be sure to pass your color comments along to our design team Krista!
