Fresh ideas for bright-eyed radiance.
Skin Is Skin, Right?
Actually, no! The delicate skin around your eyes is thinner and dryer, which is why it’s the first to show the little crinkles of a life well lived… or the evidence a sleepless night when dark circles appear. Just like your facial complexion needs more TLC than the skin on your body, the skin around your eyes requires even gentler care than your face.
Face Cream vs Eye Cream
While your anti-aging face cream may target the same concerns like wrinkles and loss of elasticity, an eye cream is specifically formulated for the fragile skin around your eyes. Eye creams are typically more emollient with a higher oil concentration. Plus, eye treatments are blended with lower doses of anti-aging ingredients, which can be too harsh for eyes in the higher concentrations often found in traditional face creams.
The area around our eyes needs targeted moisture to plump up the volume on crepey dry skin, filling in wrinkles and sunken tissue. Look for products with humectants like Glycerin or Hyaluronic Acid to attract and seal in hydration. Our favorite natural hydrator, Marula Pure Beauty Oil™, has two new luxe eye moisturizers, Pure Marula Eye Cream and the perfectly portable Lips 2 Lines hydration balm which plumps parched eyes and lips with flawless firming action.
Lines & Wrinkles
Squinting, smiling and everyday stressors can let little lines and wrinkles creep in around our eyes as collagen production drops and cell turnover slows. Vitamin C boosts collagen while treatments with Retinol (Vitamin A), like Amarte’s Eyeconic, stimulate new cells to fade lines. The natural healing benefits of Copper also smooth and firm lines and crow’s feet. Osmotics’ Blue Copper 5 Prime Eye Cream targets hormonal aging to lift and tighten eyes.
Thinner skin can’t hide the under-eye darkness of a sleepless night in quite the same way thick, youthful skin can. And the hormonal slowing of our lymphatic system can leave our pretty eyes rather puffy. Collagen-building Vitamin C thickens skin to better conceal dark circles. Brighten and firm puffy, dark eyes with , our stores’ number one favorite eye treatment. A simple spritz of saline nasal spray can also help fade puffiness and dark circles related to sinus congestion.
The Application Situation
For the best age-defying results, apply eye creams or serums every morning and night after your facial moisturizer. A tiny, pea-sized amount of eye cream is plenty to treat both eyes. Using your ring finger, gently tap the product under the eye, along the orbital bone, circling around your eye, pat, pat, up and around and under your eyebrow. Don’t rub or tug skin or press too hard. Let it dry for a couple of minutes before applying makeup to prevent your foundation from settling into fine lines.
Best Way to Sleep
Boost the power of your eye cream by getting a good night’s sleep which gives your treatment a chance to really work as skin cells recharge. Extra ZZZ time will also help keep dark circles at bay. Believe it or not, how you sleep can really impact your eye-ppearance. Avoid sleeping on your face, which can cause lines and wrinkles to set in. A silk pillowcase is the most gentle on delicate eye skin, helping to prevent facial creasing. Sleeping slightly propped up with pillows will keep your lymphatic system circulating, lessening the likelihood of puffy eyes.
