What constitutes a “natural” beauty product?

There’s still no universally accepted standard, even though the market is growing at a rapid rate. Our skin is the largest organ of our body and studies have found that the skin can absorb up to approximately 60% of what we put on it. We need to educate ourselves and be familiar with what we are actually putting on our skin. Chemicals, artificial colors, and fillers in skin care products and makeup can cause redness, irritation, and breakouts may lead to damaging effects longer-term.

Naturally formulated products work with your skin instead of against it. We source highly active botanicals as these pure, plant botanicals provide the highest level of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and enzymes that the skin needs and provides a vital spectrum of benefits without being compromised by fillers and in-active ingredients allowing the skin to receive the most abundant treatment while mitigating irritation due there being no traces of harsh ingredients.  All Goldfaden MD products are made without harsh synthetic ingredients. Our commitment is to create safe, yet effective products that utilize the most effective and innovative naturally-derived, result driven ingredients.

Currently, there is a massive shift towards the use of natural botanicals and this is due impart as both the industry and consumers are now more educated on the treatment benefits of these naturally derived ingredients and now there is science to prove that the performance of these naturally based actives can surpass those of certain chemically-based compounds.  It makes sense that the industry and consumers are now gravitating towards clean, plant-based beauty.

Discover the benefits of active naturally-based botanicals

Botanicals are at the heart of our BRAND DNA. Every product we create is inspired by a natural, active botanical and the skin benefits that it provides.

“I have been a pioneer in the research of active natural botanicals for the last 30 years. Active Botanicals, meaning substances produced by a plant organism, offer a robust number of skincare benefits in topical treatments.” Dermatologist, Dr. Gary Goldfaden MD.

This is a very exciting time in our industry as newly developed botanical actives and their treatment benefits are popping up on a daily basis. An example of this is the discovery of natural sources of Vitamin A/Retinol, derived from carrots and sweet potatoes, proven to provide skin-brightening benefits and is now one of our featured ingredients.

Super botanicals can be found in a number of plants and botanicals that we can use topically as skincare or ingest for nutrition. Actives refer to specific ingredients in a product formula that offer some therapeutic action that either nurtures, revitalizes, or protects your skin. Here are some of my favorite ingredients to use throughout our range.

  • High levels of Vitamin C
  • Rich in anti-oxidants
  • Anti-aging properties
  • Promotes skin brightening
  • Delivers radiance and flawless complexion

Red Tea

“One of the best health-promoting ingredients I’ve found to help revitalize and rejuvenate the skin. As a matter of fact, most of our products contain a concentrated red tea extract as part of their formula. That may give you an idea of how indispensable I believe this substance is for its ability to regenerate new skin cells, fight the visible signs of aging, and provide potent free radical protection.” Dr. Goldfaden

  • Red tea (Rooibos) is made from the oxidized and dried leaves of the Aspalathis linearis plant that only grows in one spot on Earth— a tiny, mountainous region of South Africa in Western Cape Province.
  • For centuries the native South African tribes have used this natural remedy to alleviate ailments ranging from infantile colic and allergies to asthma and skin problems.
  • The most important therapeutic aspect of red tea is undoubtedly its powerful antioxidant capacity.
  • Red tea contains some of the most potent natural antioxidants known for protecting your skin from the free radical damage that can cause aging. **vitamins C, E and beta-carotene.
  • Red tea is known to possess 50 times the antioxidant capacity of green tea due to a high concentration of a special enzyme called superoxide dismutase.
  • Red tea also contains potent polyphenols and flavonoids that help heal and rejuvenate the skin.
  • Red tea helps reduce the appearance of fine lines, acne scars, and dark spots.

Vitamin A

Topical vitamin A plays a major role in maintaining the youth of your skin by boosting the process of cell regeneration. Vitamin A and its retinoid analogs stimulate skin cell renewal by increasing the rate of cell division. Through its powerful action as a signaling agent, vitamin A stimulates the binding of epidermal growth factor to your skin cells, thereby encouraging new cell growth. This helps keep your skin soft and smooth. In addition, vitamin A actually thickens your epidermis, which becomes thinner with age, and also improves the elasticity of your skin.

Because vitamin A is a fat-soluble vitamin, it penetrates your skin easily to enhance texture, improve mottled appearance, and minimize wrinkling. Vitamin A helps reduce the number of destructive metalloproteinase enzymes that tear down your dermal matrix and it also stimulates vital collagen production. Finally, vitamin A’s impressive antioxidant properties allow it to neutralize the free radicals in the your skin that can cause cellular damage and accelerate premature aging.

  • Helps reduce wrinkles
  • Increases collagen
  • Protects DNA
  • Enhances skin thickness + improves elasticity
  • One of the most valuable ingredients known for healing aged or sun-damaged skin.
  • Our Vitamin A/Retinol is derived from carrots and sweet potatoes

Hyaluronic Acid:

Hyaluronic acid is a large, sugar-like molecule that’s found in virtually every tissue of your body. Hyaluronic acid is an ideal moisturizer and skin plumping agent because it can attract and retain 1000 times its own weight in water (a feat unmatched by any other substance in nature). The volumizing effect it has on your skin adds vital fullness that can minimize facial wrinkles, plump up thin skin and maintain proper moisture levels by preventing dehydration in the skin.

Unfortunately, although hyaluronic acid is found in great abundance in youthful skin, the cumulative damage caused by free radicals drastically depletes these hyaluronic acid reserves. That’s why, particularly for mature skin, the use of hyaluronic acid as an ingredient to aid cell renewal and help restore healthy texture, color, and moisture. Sourced from plant stems and sweet potatoes, hyaluronic acid can be found throughout our collection and in particularly high concentration within our Needle-Less product.
